Fantasy Island part 6....... Beach Boys and Girls... Published in The Galveston Wizard

More Fantasy Island... Beach boys (and girls)………………. It is such an indescribable feeling to have nothing to do but dig your feet into the hot sand and watch (people get eaten by sharks!) dolphins frolic in the waves. Or were those surfers? That is another story, again! I had to visit my other beach boy Frankie down on the beach in front of Float. That boy is one smooth talker. If you think you got game, go chat with him for a few. He has a slight twang reminiscent of a New Orleans coon ass. Which by the way is where his mother is from. His daddy is Sicilian and is BOI, as is Frankie. He started working down on Poretto beach for Leroy Naschke when he was only 16 years old. I think that is where became addicted to the beach lifestyle. You should see him swinging (actually his beach girl was swinging the hammock for him!) in his hammock while his employees run up and down the beach! Even though I say this, he does work his butt off , Ah the life! His employees were scurrying li

Fantasy Island part 5- H2O and BOI's....

Another reminder that this part of my second article for the Galveston Wizard! "Fantasy Island" H2O on the seawall and BOI‘s on the west end.…………………… I hung with Hott and McHard until T called and told me that he was home. Here’s the thing, I was soo tired by then I kept missing the right turns. I had to call him back 4 or 5 times. Truly, I’m usually good with directions, but I was toast between the sun and the massage. Let’s just say T was relieved when he opened the door and saw me standing there, he was kind of expecting someone with a “pretty face” and a “good personality”. How great is it that he opened up his home to me without even meeting me before! What would I say right now? Yes, I’m a lucky you know what! I quickly took a shower and we headed back to H2O. I’m obsessed with Mohito’s right now and they have great ones. A couple of T’s friends met us there, ( they are opening a wine bar on the strand called Bacchus) we sit down under one of the pergola’s and nex

Fantasy Island part 4, Hott, McHard and Korean Whorehouses..... Published in The Galveston Wizard

Here is part 4 of Fantasy Island, my second article for http://www.galvestonwizard.com/ This is the UNEDITED Version BTW!!! Hott, McHard and Korean Whorehouses.……………………… I think I stayed on the beach for 4 or 5 hours that day. Of course, it turned out that Brandi had to work. Detour in the plan #1. My saving grace this weekend was T. If it wasn’t for him, my weekend would have been ruined. Brandi called and said hook up with T and you can stay with him, he‘s a great guy and my best friend. T works in Houston and was stuck in rush hour traffic for over an hour, so he told me to go to H2O at the San Luis Hotel. Of course I was all hot and sweaty from sitting on the beach for quite a few hours, but I was game. I pull up in the Jag (always gets prompt service) and Shawn opens the door for me. Valet extraordinaire. I mosey around the bar area to where the hotel guests can sit on these great round daybeds. The back curves around ¾ of the daybed and you just want to crawl up and ta

why,Why,WHy,WHY?????

Am I pouting right now? Yes, I fricking am, so you are just going to have to deal with it. I was up very late last night (boo- hoo ) partying with the cool kids and I just want to go to sleep right now. First things, first. My trip to Galveston is going to have to wait. Why, you ask? Weeelll , I guess that the schools are not open yet and even if they were, they wouldn't be very safe. A little birdie told me that rusty nails have been found in the school yard and UTMB is not up and working. The (ARMY?) set up a military style triage to stablize patients, (yes, they will stop your amputated limb from bleeding you out) then they will have to fly you up to houston . Sounds like a good plan to me. NO! Soooo , no school, no daycare on the island,no hospital and no mommy bringing her two little ones to Galvatraz . I think that name has never been more fitting, than at this time! Do you? Still no room at the inn. It's amazing how the rental prices seem to go up in a

Fantasy Island part 3..................... Jaw‘s………………….. Again, I’m feeling pretty good about myself. (a recurring theme) Sometimes a girl has to make herself feel good, when no one else is! (again, that sounded bad) Since my trip, I stepped up my free weight routine and lost 6 or 7 pounds. I actually ran 5 freaking miles! I love to run because its hard and you feel like you accomplished something! Nothing can beat a runners high. I felt that my body was pretty rockin right now with a few minor flaws. (perfection is boring, and I did have two kids after all) For the first time in 3 years, I bought a two piece bikini! All you mom’s out there know that is a big deal! I changed at H’s house, watch a “Jon” pick up a Hooker and I was off to the races! Then, I get to the beach and come face to face with Barbie!! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hatin! And I’m not saying that she’s fake like a Barbie doll either, but she looked perfect. Hellllllloo, where is that burqua? I’d t

Now,Now,NOW!!!!!

ADHD? These last few days have been totally nuts.  I've been experiencing manic-depressive type symptoms and No, I'm not manic-depressive. (not that judge those who do, thank god I don't have to add that to my list!) I do have anxiety issues every once in awhile but my mood lately has gone from being as high as my friends in Greensboro, to as low as you can get. I'm not sure if God wants me to go to Galveston just yet. I'm working on all the logistics that come with bringing your two kids to a devastated wasteland and its not going very well. My girlfriend Brandi has a lot of her family staying with her already, so I don't want to add to that craziness . I could stay with Frankie, but he might have to find his own place to stay soon and it wouldn't be that smart of me to have to rent a place. I don't know what to do. Can I go now? Pleeeeze.... I just really want to be in Galveston right now, I feel this overwhelming urge to be a part of the rebuildi

Part 2 of Volume 13 for the Galveston Wizard. These blogs include parts that were edited out! Read on my friends..... Sorry its been so long in between posts, i've been painting so much my back muscles are cramping up! KURTZ RENTALS………………… (Sorry baby, you are gonna hate that title!!! But its really funny!) Kurt picked me up in the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen. You looked at it and got goose bumps. This is the type of car that could turn a girl on just sitting in the passenger seat, let alone driving it for four days! We walk into Momentum Jaguar and who do we see ? Antonio McDyess, of the Detroit pistons! (Shaq had been in a few days earlier) I said hello to Antonio, we bantered for a second and I was off to the island. The ride was amazing! In two days, I drove back and forth 2 times, one was in a horrible rainstorm, in rush hour traffic and I could have cared less. It was that good, the ride. Get your mind out of the gutter! Of course, that is where mine usually

This is part 1 of my second article for the galveston wizard.....  FANTASY ISLAND IN THE BEGINNING………………..      There wasn ’t a taxi in sight! That is how this trip started. My flight to come back and see y’all was very early and of course it took forever to fall asleep that night. I felt like a 10 yr old on Christmas Eve. Yes, its true. I have had a love affair with Galveston for a long time. So anyway, I knew I had a metro car scheduled to pick me up, but as the full moon was shining, I pressed my nose to the cold window glass. There was not a car in sight. 4:30 no car, 4:35 no car. I called them at 4:38- Dude, where’s my car? Sorry, he says in a distinctive accent, we don’t have your reservation. Great! Now we have to pack up the kids and move to Beverly. No, that’s another story. Ha. At least Sydney didn ’t start screaming until I got out of the my car and said goodbye. Seriously, it only took 15 minutes from the time I put one foot inside the airport till I was at the gat

Remember all these posts are from my first article in this June's issue of the Galveston Wizard. Volume 12. My Boys, Tea and First Place Chefs Choice……………….     I need y’all to know that I have missed my “Boys”! Ever since my freshman year at TAMUG I was one of the guys. The girls just didn ’t like me very much, so I found a great group of guy friends. It is truly a special thing to be included as “one of the guys”. They used to pick on me all the time (like they do to each other) and one day I said something to T, I guess I was PMS’ ing or something. He told me they wouldn ’t pick on me if they didn ’t like me! I never forgot that. What I love about this town is that people stay friends forever. Even a lot of our friends intermarried. I at first thought it was alittle like incest or marrying your second cousin. It can make gatherings pretty interesting, especially when you are friends with all parties involved! First you have T, I’ll call him the Godfather. He ki

F' IKE....

Rules, smules.... Of course I know there are rules to posting, like, post everyday, post every other day etc. Yes, I should have "called" and told y'all that I was leaving for a few days to North Carolina, but I just probably didn't give a F. (plus, I don't even know if anyone has even read any of this stuff) I did think about it, but with the hurricane, packing for myself and the kids, I really didn't have enough time. Come to think of it, I did try to set up the mobile blog thingy, but they never sent me the code. I did plan on blogging while I was gone, but I was having a good ole time and probably would have forgotten anyway. Hightimes in Highpoint..... I had a great time in Greensboro, HARD at work, studying my ass off for my TEST. We went to Boone, NC, the last day I was there and was delighted to find out that it was home to Appalachain State University! Since I live in Michigan and we are a MSU family, I thought it would be great to bring home some

GOD SAVE GALVESTON!

Waiting..... Well, I wasn't going create a new post tonite. Everytime I look at a picture from Galveston, I start to get  teary again. I'm already brewing a migraine. Ever since this past tuesday, i've been clenching my teeth so hard i think i'm going to start looking like John McCain. Yes, that was uncalled for, but i'm feeling pissy. I don't know how many of my friends in Galveston or in Houston were able, or smart enough to evacuate, but this helpless feeling is unbelievable. Journalistic tendencies...... Besides writing for the Galveston Wizard, I write the Ddays column for Real Detroit Weekly.  Last night I was on assignment at Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak,  and thank the lord the bartender changed the channel to cnn or I think I would have bitch slapped him. I might have felt better though. For the first time in years, I do not currently have cable so I have to find other ways besides the internet to get my IKE fix. I took my two beautiful children to

Part 3 of my Galveston Wizard article, Volume 12 Blew off?      Since the last few days were laid back, I was dying to go out. T.and F went fishing every day and then they had “couples” time in the evening. I could have been the 5 th wheel but nooooooo I wasn ’t invited. I decided to make a few calls and very sweet M said she would go out to dinner with me. So we decided to go this great sushi restaurant (?) on 61st. Both of the owners can be found there on any given night. You h ave to try the seaweed salad, it was amazing. The taste was slightly tart and unexpected. Don’t forget to order the edamame , but please don’t eat the shell!! We sat at the sushi bar and were having a grand ole time when low and behold, T and his clan walks in! It seems like you can’t go anywhere on the island without running into someone you know. It always seemed like I wasn ’t wearing a stitch of make-up and then I’d see someone I hadn ’t seen in years…      Now M is a marine biologist and she i

Mold, Migraines and Waves?            By the time Sunday came around we had already moved twice in the timeshare complex. We had to move from the first townhouse because the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom was dripping water on your head every time you used the crapper. Drip…..Drip…..Drip…… That does get old after awhile, not to mention the mold covering the ceiling. It was all puffy like moldy cottage cheese. The second and last townhouse was better, at least you could see the gulf from the patio. It was also very loud and every night you had a beautiful display of traffic lights flashing on your walls. I decided to call those lights “mood enhancers” But they are newly refurbished! Most of the furniture was chrome, with glass tables. The couches were so well loved you just sank into them. I was getting ready to go to the beach when my babysitter comes running up the stairs and tells me that a cockroach was crawling along the side of the couch. Of course she was

I thought I would start off my blogging career by posting my first article (mostly unedited content) for the Galveston Wizard...Today, I think I will post alot of ramblings..... THANKS FOR THE GOOD TIMES, GALVESTON!!! This trip back to Galveston has been a long time coming. The last time I was on Texas soil was almost 12 years ago and I’ ve been dreaming of coming back ever since. Seriously, I’ ve been have dreams about Galveston 3 or 4 times a year. Most of the time they were more like nightmares, obviously I needed to come back! I flew into Houston with (1) 2 yr old, (1) 4 yr old and (1) agoraphobic babysitter! Why, you ask? Because I was desperate!!! We stayed the first night @ Homer G. house. Homer is what I would call a gentle giant. My kids loved the crap out of him. He should have a whole passel of kids! He was that good with them. I could get them to listen just by telling them we were going to see Homer! (He’s one of my boys and manager at YAGA ’S) You could say
